Training & Career Progression
At Merry Maids, previous cleaning experience isn’t necessary. Upon joining us, you will undertake full training, enabling you to clean to our standards and use our bespoke products.
All equipment required will be provided for you.
You will receive Alzheimers and dementia training by Alzheimer’s Society.

A little bit about us
Merry Maids of Croydon began providing domestic cleaning services in Croydon in 2003. Debbie Walker is the business owner who previously had worked in Sales and Marketing for a variety of Blue Chip companies. Debbie decided to leave the hustle and bustle in favour of the challenge and rewards of setting up a cleaning franchise business.

Over two decades later the business employs over 25 staff. Many of these have worked for Debbie for many years. All our staff take a pride in their work.

This coveted award, now in its fifth year, recognises the best of the best of British franchising and is only awarded to a handful of franchisees across the whole country annually.

Croydon-based businesswoman Debbie Walker, owner of Merry Maids of Croydon, was finalist for the prestigious 2023 BFA HSBC British Franchise Awards.
To Merry Maids of Croydon, bettering a customer’s quality of life involves more than just a clean environment. Even though the business is not a care franchise, per se, Debbie is proud to run a business that cares. One that she calls a business with a heart. In the past year, she has taken on a Ukrainian refugee to enable her to stay in the UK, donated enough material during a food bank drive to feed multiple vulnerable families struggling with the cost of living over and beyond the Christmas period, and been paramount in the development of the ongoing nationwide Merry Maids Forget Me Knot Challenge, which has raised over £1300 for Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Friends in just six weeks.

This included the team from Merry Maids of Croydon, who won the prestigious Great Place to Invest award as a recognition of the investment they have made in their local community through multiple initiatives that have helped them give back to the people they serve, including successful food drives and supporting our nationwide Forget Me Knot Challenge for Alzheimer’s Society.

Merry Maids of Croydon are proud to be Dementia Friends.
Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition. Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK. Dementia Friends was launched to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding that means many people with the condition experience loneliness and social exclusion.
A Dementia Friend or Dementia Friends Champion such as the maids at Merry Maids Croydon are individuals who have a better understanding of dementia; will know how to act more sympathetically towards people with dementia in their communities and workplaces; and has committed to taking a practical action to help people with dementia, contributing to a dementia friendly community. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.
We felt that it was important for each one of our maids to become Dementia Friends as we often visit customers homes where someone is affected by Dementia, either personally or through a friend or relative.
