But what does this look like in action?
This blog post shares the story of customers of Merry Maids in Wakefield, Leeds, York and Harrogate and how our dementia-friendly cleaning has helped them.
Meet Mr and Mrs R
Merry Maids has been cleaning for Mrs R’s family for the last ten years.
Four years ago, she was diagnosed with dementia, aged only 58 years old, and the team have been cleaning for her and Mr R ever since to support her in keeping her house a home.
How we help
Initially, we visited every month to stay on top of the cleaning and keep everything tidy.
Today, Mr and Mrs R have increased the frequency of their service to a weekly cleaning from our expert team, ensuring the whole home always looks its best week in and week out.
During this time, due to changes in how her dementia impacts her, the team have adapted their services, like entering through a gate rather than the front door, as Mrs R’s condition means she was at risk of wandering from home unannounced.
Still, Mrs R is elated whenever our staff (or her ladies, as she has dubbed them) call in for her cleanings, greeting them at the door and walking around the house with them, as she likes to see the process of our cleaning in action.
Despite her health, she also likes to dust under our supervision, and Mr R has asked if she can do this whenever Merry Maids is there – which, of course, she can.
Our staff have gotten into a steady rhythm whereby one cleaner stays with Mrs R while she dusts and ensures she has some extra companionship and supervision, while the other maid gets on with the rest of the cleaning.
In an email to our staff, Mrs R shared her satisfaction and delight at seeing our cleaners and the impact our help has:
‘[I] can’t wait to see my ladies, they always bring cheer to us both,’ she says.
‘Oh, and the house is always sparkling when they leave!’
