Supporting a Young Person Through YMCA Guildford
Having a safe place to live can make it easier to plan for tomorrow. That’s why Merry Maids AAA is sponsoring a young person experiencing homelessness for a full year through YMCA Guildford.
Our contribution to YMCA DownsLink Group’s Room Sponsorship scheme helps fund supported accommodation and essential resources. It’s a practical way for us to support a young person in our local community.
Through our work in people’s homes, we understand how important it is to have a settled place to return to. For a young person experiencing homelessness, that security may be missing just as they’re navigating education, employment and decisions about their future.
We wanted our support to reflect the time it can take to address these challenges. A year-long sponsorship lets us contribute beyond an immediate need and support the charity’s ongoing work with a resident.
Ayranna Kugathas, Business Manager, said:
“I wanted us to make a sustained commitment rather than a one-off donation. Without somewhere safe to live, focusing on education, employment or the future becomes far more difficult.”
Through YMCA Guildford, the young person can access both accommodation and practical support. Having both matters: a room offers somewhere safe to stay, while support can help them explore their options and take steps towards greater independence.
There’s no set timetable for progress. Every young person has their own circumstances, needs and ambitions. As a sponsor, our role is to help fund the support they need, while the charity guides the work.
For our team, this is a meaningful way to support our local community. We’re pleased to help ensure that, for a year, one young person has a secure place to live and support as they plan their next steps.
